These pages contain a short guide on how to install your own wireless network here on the U of T campus. Before proceeding, be aware that UofT has its own institutional wireless network, UTORcwn. Please check this page to see if your wireless needs may be met using this network.

If you are going to set up your own network, please be sure that you understand the mandatory guidelines in the Network Security Policy. The network request* and access point registration* processes are part of what is required to be in compliance with these guidelines. CNS irregularily seeks out unauthorized access points and will take appropriate action when these are found.

In addition to the Network Security Policy, CNS has provided some general guidelines for installing your own wireless network on the U of T campus. Some How-To docs have also been included for setting up a couple of the more popular, inexpensive wireless router solutions. The routers covered here are generally of a simpler bent, not providing such complex network functionality as SNMP or Virtual AP hosting.
